Peter McGuffin Memorial Scholarship

Leaving a Legacy of Science & Hope

Professor McGuffin shaped the field of psychiatric genetics, reviving this branch of science in the U.K., organizing the first two World Congresses of Psychiatric Genetics with Tim Crow, leading to the formation of our organization. and serving as ISPG’s second president.

He blazed trails at every turn, from his role as a MRC Senior Clinical Fellowship to founding fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. Professor McGuffin’s prolific nature led him to his role as Director of the MRC Social, Genetic and Developmental Psychiatry (SGDP) Centre, King’s College London, where he was awarded the JIF award for his contributions to establishing the college as one of the foremost departments of it kind in the world.

Professor McGuffin’s brilliant mind and shining spirit will be missed. His mission to change lives through the science of genetics will live on.
